What Ranking Data Can and Cannot Prove

A ranking export can look definitive while still leaving important questions unanswered.

One archived UniPin Search Console export contained 1,000 queries. Of those, 917 appeared on page one and 335 were in the top three positions. That is useful evidence of broad ranking coverage.

It does not tell me the total clicks or impressions for the property. It also does not prove a specific growth rate because the original date range is no longer available. Removing those caveats would turn a real result into a weak claim.

Keep the limits attached

When I turn project data into a case note, I keep four things together:

1. the source
2. the time window
3. the active filters
4. the question the data can answer

If one of those is missing, the language should get narrower.

Credible case studies are not the ones with the largest number. They are the ones where another person can understand exactly what the number means.
